<p><span>Innovations in technology, gameplay and business are transforming the way developers create, players engage and platforms participate. Looking at examples across industry and sharing insights from Microsoft, Sarah Bond will outline the forces shaping the game industry today and how publishers and developers can thrive in this new era of play.</span></p>
<p><span>As investors and the tech giants pour billions into AR and the buzz grows, there remains an important lingering question for developers - should they care?  There has been immense growth in AR in the last few years, but is there value today or is it years away?  Where is the current tech today relative to the applications?  Where is this market going, and is it being driven by tech or applications?  In this talk, we will dive into these questions and more and discuss why the gaming industry will have a longer / bigger impact on AR than any other computing medium before.</span></p>
<p><span>For years, videogames have relied on A.I. developments to advance, while A.I. pioneers used games as a benchmark to compare how their algorithm performed against real humans for human level decisions. Today, disruptive changes in both areas have created new ecosystems where they not only accelerate their own developments but a new paradigm has emerged where videogames and A.I. are on the verge of having real world implications to positively impact peoples lives in many significant ways.  Is our world the next open world?</span></p>
<p><span>A worldwide debate over video games is raging right now with leading psychiatrists, psychologists, and health organizations on one side and the World Health Organization (WHO) on the other. The WHO proposes creating a classification for video game addiction. This action could cause harmful regulations, stigmatize billions of video game players, and results in unfortunate misdiagnoses. ESA's Acting President and CEO, Stanley Pierre-Louis, will overview the current state of the WHO’s dispute, how it affects the video game industry, and what the WHO misunderstands about video games.</span></p>

<p><span>Simon Sim, President of Netmarble U.S., will talk about the company’s approach to mobile games through 3 guiding principles – diversification, culturalization, and innovation. Having seen tremendous success in Asia, Simon will provide insights into how the industry’s changes forced the company to adjust its strategy to remain competitive in the market.</span></p>
<p><span>Industry veteran Shawn Layden, Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, has participated in the evolution of the industry from a rare vantage point encompassing console development, in-house studios and third-party developers. In this presentation, Layden shares his perspective on various industry inflection points he’s experienced during his time with PlayStation and discusses current trends driving the gaming industry – providing context around our shared history to help think about what comes next.</span></p>
