Williams teaches courses on virtual community, new technology, and video games. He was the first researcher to conduct large-scale game experiments, and is currently working on supercomputing and cloud-based analytics of game players. His work has been covered by CNN, the New York Times, NPR, The Economist, and others, and he has served as an expert witness in federal court and before the US Senate. He graduated from USC with a bachelor's in English 1993 and a master's in Communication in 1996, and a Ph.D. in Communication from Michigan in 2004.
